2010 LEGISLATIVE SESSION

Headlines

1. Governor Perdue's Supplemental FY10 Budget calls for three additional furlough days for teachers between now and the end of the school year.

2. There is NO mention of furlough days in the Governor's FY11 budget BUT there is a substantial (>$500 million) austerity cut, meaning local systems are going to be between the proverbial rock and a hard place and the rock is beginning to roll!

3. Bullying continues to be a hot topic around the Capitol with numerous hearings centered about HB 927.

4. It appears that there is serious momentum for changing the compulsory attendance age to 17.

5. Numerous bills have been introduced and have passed one or the other chamber offering increased flexibility with regard to spending.

6. There will probably be some relaxation on class size, but not the removal of all caps as was originally proposed.
