Dr. Jim Garver, nationally known speaker and author, will be the keynote speaker at the 2008 GASSP FALL CONFERENCE, to be held November 9-11, 2008, at the Jekyll Club Hotel. Dr. Jim Garver has experience at all levels of public education-from teacher to associate superintendent, kindergarten through high school, in small schools and large. As an educational leader, he has guided schools and districts through the implementation of best practices and school-wide reform, the development of standards-based curriculum, and the improvement of climate and culture. Student achievement has increased in every school and district in which Jim has held a leadership position. Jim’s book, The 10 Secrets of Higher Student Achievement, serves as a blueprint for school improvement in several states. A second book, currently in development, focuses on enhanced coaching skills for educational leaders. Jim also assists schools and districts with NCLB compliance, including the provision of alternative governance services.
| DR. MARK D. WILSON CHOSEN AS FINALIST FOR NASSP PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR Dr. Mark D. Wilson, Principal of Morgan County High School, has been chosen as one of three finalists for NASSP PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR. Georgia has had only three finalists in the history of the award. Dr. Molly Howard was not only a finalist but was chosen Principal of the Year for 2008. Dr. Kathy Garber, Principal of Rockdale County High School, was a finalist in 1999. Congratulations to Mark Wilson! TRACIE FLEMING INSTALLED AS GASSP PRESIDENT
Tracie Fleming, Principal of McIntosh High School in Fayette County, has been installed as President of GASSP for the 2008-2010 term. The induction was done at the GASSP Business Meeting at the 2008 Summer GAEL Conference. Tracie is well known for her success as principal at McIntosh, having just recently been named a National Blue Ribbon School. GASSP is most fortunate to have someone of Tracie's expertise and poise to lead our organization for the next two years. Also installed at the Summer GAEL meeting as President Elect was Dr. Jim Arnold, Principal of Shaw High School in Columbus. Alan Long, Principal of Southeast Whitfield High School in Dalton was installed as Secretary Treasurer. Dr. Steve Hankla, CTAE Director at Colquitt County High School moved to the Past President position.
