| The 2010-2011 PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR application is now available under the Opportunities tab. If you would like to submit an application, it will be necessary to print out the application (it may be necessary to increase the display to 100%) and submit it with the materials described. GASSP with the able help of GSSA staffers has begun a coaching program for new high school and middle school principals. If you know of a new principal that would benefit from a coach, or if you will like to be a coach for a new principal, contact Dr. Patricia Stokes at 706-474-3850 or patstokes30650@bellsouth.net. The NASSP Board of Directors acted on several items at their meeting this week that will be of interest to our members. 1. Approval of the resolution to NOT increase member dues for FY 2011; 2. Approval of a one year extension to the current strategic plan, July 1, 2010--June 30, 2011; 3. Stated their intent to adopt two position statements: Access to Rigorous Classes and Class Rank, GPA, and Grading. (These two position statements will be posted on the www.principals.org site and in the Newsleader for member comment and input. Congratulations to the FINALISTS for Assistant Principal of the Year. The Finalists are: Kemberly Williams, Morgan County Middle School; Dru Tomlin, Webb Middle School (Fulton), Cindy Bennett, Lee Middle School (Coweta); Dr. Brenda Thomas, Veterans Middle School (Muscogee); and Rodney Kay, Heard County High School. The standards for Physical Education were adopted by the GA BOE last month and are now active. Standards are available at www.georgiastandards.org. New standards for FINE ARTS are posted and available for comment, also at www. georgiastandards.org. Jill Jacobs, daughter of John Jacobs of Mt. Zion MS; Leah Craft, daughter of Dr. Tommy Craft of Madison County High School; and Lynde Taylor, daughter of Wes Taylor of Lowndes County HS.
